Herbal Oil for body massage therapy – Abhyanga

Abhyanga is a massage that’s done with warm oil. The oil is applied on the entire body, from the scalp to the soles of your feet. It’s the most popular massage in Ayurveda, a traditional system of medicine from India. Ayurveda focuses on maintaining health through natural practices like massage and what you eat. The oil is the central component of Abhyanga. When combined with massage strokes, it’s thought to promote overall health and wellness. Though there isn’t much research on abhyanga specifically, it’s been practiced for thousands of years. Many people have reported therapeutic benefits and continue to use this remedy.

KIZHI – HERBAL POULTICE MASSAGE

Kizhi is good for relieving the body pain, numbness, shivering, degeneration of bones and cures diseases like joint pain, paralysis, rheumatoid arthritis, etc. It improves muscle strength, skin complexion, strengthens the nerves and nourishes the bones. This treatment can be done for both healthy people as well as the diseased. In the case of healthy people, it is done for the purpose of rejuvenation as it can slow down the ageing process.

Shirodara is one of Ayurveda’s unique rejuvenation treatments.

Warm oil is gently poured in the centre of the forehead (location of the third eye) in a rhythmic, steady stream. The pressure created meticulously on the third eye point rejuvenates the pineal glad and as a result increases the efficiency of the brain. The treatment begins with a traditional Indian head massage to sensitise the nerve endings on the skull. Shirodhara is a blissful therapy beneficial for sleep disorders, stress relief, headaches, depression and anxiety.

Foot massage or Chavitti uzhichil

Foot massage or Chavitti uzhichil or is popularly known as at times rope massage, based on the procedure used in this treatment. Chavitti Uzhichil is a unique form of massage that originated from the esteemed traditional martial arts form India. This is a specialisation of Ayurvedic bodywork, integrated in a way that provides entirely new ways of touching and honouring bodies, proven by experimentation over millennia . Foot massage can go to the source of the pain, feeling the affected areas, releasing accumulated tension and increasing circulation, flexibility and mobility. Its action can be even deeper and more therapeutic than certain hand massages. The movements can be gentle, deep or invigorating: each part of the foot serves a different function.

Foot massage or Chavitti uzhichil

Podikizhi

Podikizhi has herbs that are dried and powdered. These are mixed into warm herbal oils and then added into muslin bags. This poultice is applied on the affected areas. Podikizhis are beneficial in case of rheumatic arthritis and in overcoming pain in muscles and joints. It is also effective in the treatment of chronic sports injuries.
